Jet Band Saw

When you have finally decided to get that essential piece of equipment for every well stocked home hobbyist’s workshop, the band saw, you will not go wrong to get a Jet band saw. Built with the quality manufacturing and engineering that Jet is known for, Jet band saws are built to work all day long in a professional shop and will more than meet any work requirement you wish to subject them too. There is a large selection to choose from in both vertical and horizontal models. Pricing will vary from the very affordable to the very expensive.

Most jet band saw models come with nice amenities as dust removal ports for saw dust removal systems to protect your workshop and the band saw motor. Some of the larger Jet band saws will have enclosed stands with the motor inside. The more expensive models will come with a band saw welder to enable you to make your own band saw blades. Operating a band saw welder can be a little tricky the first few times you use one attached to your Jet band saw. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when using a band saw blade welder attached to your Jet band saw.

First is that to use the welder properly to get a smooth weld on your band saw blades, the ends of the blade material being welded must fit together without any gaps. The way to achieve this is to place the ends together so that the teeth are facing the same direction and grinding them on a grinding wheel till you have an even perpendicular edge on both ends. The next step is to place both ends in the welder attached to your Jet band saw with the teeth facing out and no gap between the ends. If a gap shows then you need to regrind the ends until no gap shows. When you activate the welder attached to your Jet band saw, there will a large spark that may make you jump the first time you see it.

Finally, after the welding is successful, you need to grind and buff the weld until it is as smooth as the rest of the blade. This is very important to the use of your newly welded band saw blade in your Jet band saw. If the weld is not smooth and even, it will catch in the guides and break. Then you will have to remake the blade if you have enough material left in the band or make a new one if the there is not enough material to weld the blade again. You should take care not to make the weld thinner than the rest of the band saw blade as this may cause it to break as well.

By following these simple steps, you can enjoy the use of your Jet band saw with a welder attached for many years of productive service.
