5 Choices in DeWalt Miter Saws

DeWalt woodworking products have been around since 1922 when DeWalt first invented the radial arm saw. In 1924, DeWalt Products Company was founded to produce this radial arm saw. The 1940's and 50's brought great expansion for the company as they added products and grew to keep up with the demand. By 1992 DeWalt was adding portable electric power tools and had gone cordless by 1994. Presently, DeWalt's line of tools includes over 200 electric power tools and over 800 accessories for those tools.

DeWalt miter saws are a part of this woodworking manufacturer's tool line. DeWalt offers five models of its compound miter saw.

1. 10-inch compound miter saw
This base model starts around $200. This 10-inch model has a 0-50 degree left and right miter and a 0-48 degree bevel. To help with quick set up, it has 11 positive stops for the most commonly used angles. The fence can hold up to 4 1/2" crown molding vertically nested. It has a 15-amp motor and comes with the blade, dust bad, and blade wrench.

2. 8 1/2" single bevel compound miter saw
With a 15-amp motor this model has a stainless steel adjustable detent plate with 11 positive stops. It can cut up to 3 1/2" crown nested vertically and 3 1/4" base vertically. Miter capacity is 50 for left and 60 for right. It has 5 bevel stops and cam locking miter. At around $400, this miter has increased cutting capacity compared to the base model.

3. 12-inch single bevel compound miter saw
With the same basic features, this saw adds a sliding fence that can hold crown molding up to 5 1/4" nested and base molding up to 6 1/2" vertically. The fence holds up the molding but slides out of the way for the bevel cuts. It offers 4 bevel stops and 0-50 degree left and right miter capacity at a price around $330.

4. 12-inch double bevel compound miter saw
This model just improves the cutting capacity of the previous models. It can hold up to 6 5/8" nested and base molding of 6 1/2" while sliding out of the way of bevel cuts. The double bevel feature lets the saw bevel left and right 0-48 degrees. The saw flips without having to move the stock. It can cut up to 2X10 stock at 90 degrees and 2X8 at 45 degrees. It is priced around $400.

5. 12-inch double bevel sliding compound miter saw
With the same features as above, this model improves with its cutting dimensions. It can cut stock up to 2X16 at 90 degrees and 2X12 stock at 45 degrees. The miter is 60 degrees to the left and 50 degrees to the right. This highest performing DeWalt miter saw is priced near $650.

All DeWalt products come with a warranty package that includes a 3-year limited warranty against faulty materials or workmanship. This is not valid for abuse, normal wear, or attempted repairs by an unauthorized service provider. It also offers replacement of any worn parts in the first year of ownership. Each tool has a 90-day money back guarantee, but you should still check with your individual tool's paper work.
