When your work shop space is limited and you still want the capabilities that a bandsaw gives you, a bench top bandsaw may be the answer. A smaller sized version of the floor models, bench top bandsaws are capable of delivering most of what the floor sized models do. With the wealth of varieties available from different manufacturers, you are sure to find one that can fill your small spaced workshop needs. Most bench top bandsaws are able to be bolted to your bench top for greater stability. While not as capable as floor models, bench top bandsaws will add to the capabilities of your workshop while taking only a portion of your bench top space for installation. Some of the models available have deep throats of nine inches that will allow you to work on most of the same size pieces you would use a floor model for. Even the smallest of throats available on bench top bandsaws will allow you to work with four inch thick pieces of wood. That is what most home hobbyists need for bandsaw capabilities. The biggest drawback of bench top bandsaws is the small size of the table. This means that you are limited in the size piece you can work on in width. No ripping of large pieces to size on a bench top bandsaw as you can do with a floor model. Since most home hobbyist do not use bandsaws for their ripping needs, this is not too great of a handicap. Many of the bench top bandsaws available have tiltable tables to allow you to use your bandsaw for making angled cuts of up to 45 degrees. This can come in handy when making miter cuts on smaller pieces of wood. The versatility that a bench top bandsaw will add to your home hobbyist workshop is worth the relatively low price you will pay for one. Floor models can cost thousands of dollars, yet bench top models will only cost in the hundreds of dollars. The actual price will vary with the size of the throat and the other capabilities that the model of bench top bandsaw you choose has available. A simple search of the internet will turn up thousands of entries relating to bench top bandsaws and there are many comparison web sites that will show you on a side by side basis, just what capabilities are available and the relative prices for those models.
